A VISIT TO THE LAGOON

Hello friends! It's been a while since I've posted anything! We've been busy with school and haven't had much free time. Since my last post Sophia started first grade and Aiden is in pre-k. It's been a great year so far with lots of new adventures. A few weeks ago I drove past a lagoon and made a spontaneous stop with the kids. They loved it so much and had been begging to go back and so yesterday we did. We saw lots of wildlife and signs that spring is just around the corner. After our walk we sat down to jot in our nature journals and had a beautiful view of the pacific ocean.  They also have a facility with a few live animals. There a park ranger inside and will answer any questions you might have. So if you're in the San Diego area I highly recommend visiting this place.

WEEKLY POEM (and a free printable)

Happy Tuesday readers!
This week we're learning all about black garden ants from our Exploring Nature With Children curriculum. As I've mentioned before we memorize a new poem every week and I happened to stumble on a perfect one. There is a poem already included in the curriculum but we just love the one I found. It has no author but I will link the website  where I found it.
And of course we had to illustrate it because it's just too stinkin cute not to.

OUR WEEKLY POEM ROUTINE (and a freebie)

Wow, it's been a while since my first post. I still need to find some time to squeeze blogging into so bare with me. I wanted to share a bit of our poem routine and what we do. On Sundays I make sure to find a poem that will be easy enough for Sophia to write and memorize. On Mondays we recite it together then it's her copy work for the day. Then we recite it every morning for the rest of the week. Sophia has a brilliant mind, she's so good at memorizing things (like she'll tell you a memory from when she was one year old) So she usually memorizes the poem by the end of the week. One of my favorite poem books is A Child's First Book of Poems. This week she is memorizing Mice by Rose Fyleman. This past Friday we were at mothers house and she told them to keep an eye out for the mouse that was in her house. Naturally they started freaking out and were uneasy the rest of the time there because they were afraid. So this poem is perfect. I have included a copy work freebie for any of you who would like to have it.

Our Darling Schoolhouse

Hello and welcome! I decided to start this blog to share our learning and nature adventures with my kids. I have a lifestyle blog here  but thought it would be better to have one specifically for home school. This is my first year as a home school mom and it's been a roller coaster to say the least. At first I felt like I had a made a mistake, I mean I was never a teacher. I started doubting myself and thought that I wasn't going to be able to teach my children appropriately. Fast forward 6 months later and we are still going strong. We have good days and we have bad days but my love for teaching my children has grown immensely and I love that I get to stay home with my kids and see them develop a love for learning.  I would say my schooling is a mix of both traditional and nontraditional. We love learning outdoors so it's a MUST for us to learn about nature and have school outdoors as well.
I have lots of stuff in store from our outdoor adventures to what curriculum we follow and just day to day home school stuff.

Here are photos of our school area back in August, we live in an apartment and our space is very limited but we work with what we have.
